Cochrane Piranhas Awards Criteria
1) Swimmer of the Year
- Most points earned at provincials
- In the case of a tie, have co-winners
2) Heart and Soul
- Positive attitude
- Encourages others
- Good work ethic
- Good attendance
- Team player/builder
3) Rookie of the Year
- 1st year with the club (doesn’t have to be their first year competitive swimming)
- If the rookie of the year gets the most points at provincials, give them swimmer of the year and select a different rookie of the year
4) Most Improved (11 & under, and 12 & up)
- Most improved based on improvement from start of the season to the end
- Subjective coaching decision based on time improvements, attitude, effort and attendance
5) True Grit (11 & under, and 12 & up)
- overcame adversity during the season
- worked hard for success
- inspired others
- dug deep for big performances when the stakes were high
- pushed his/her/their limits
6) Iron Swimmer
- Awarded to any swimmer who officially completes all events open to their age category during the course of the season
Additional information:
All awards are given at the discretion of the coaches.
Each award is typically given to a male and female, unless circumstances allow for more than one recipient in each sex category.
No swimmer will receive more than one trophy in a given year. If a swimmer is deserving of two trophies, the coaches will select the one they are most deserving of and give the second trophy to the “runner up”.
